Tax Credit

2009/2010 Energy Efficiency Tax Credit

Tax Credit Update - 6/8/09

Renewal by Andersen Manufacturer's Certification Statement Now Available
To help document qualifying products for the 2009 and 2010 federal tax credit, Renewal by Andersen now provides homeowners with the ability to download a government-accepted Manufacturer's Certification Statement.

According to the IRS, taxpayers can rely on the Manufacturer's Certification Statement to determine and document eligible products for the 2009/2010 tax credit and therefore do not have to retain the NFRC product labels.

The Renewal by Andersen Manufacturer's Certification Statement provides information on the products that qualify for the tax credit, and is available on the Renewal by Andersen website. Homeowners can download this document for their tax records.

Tax Credit Update

The IRS issued a press release stating eligibility requirements for the energy efficient tax credits established under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The release indicates that homeowners now have two ways to qualify for the tax credit.

  1. Windows and doors that are purchased between January 1, 2009 and May 31, 2009 and meet the current ENERGY STAR® requirements in the climate zone the product is installed in, are eligible for the energy efficient tax credits established under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

  2. Windows and doors that are purchased and installed between June 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010, will be required to comply with the stricter U-factor/SHGC of 0.30 or less requirements originally communicated in conjunction with the tax credit. Taxpayers should not rely on ENERGY STAR qualified products to determine eligibility, as the U-Factor/SHGC of 0.30 or less is more stringent than the current ENERGY STAR requirements. Products meeting only ENERGY STAR and not the U/SHGC of 0.30 or less will no longer be eligible effective June 1, 2009

President Obama recently signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (H.R.1) which includes a provision that provides homeowners tax incentives for energy efficient improvements made in 2009 and 2010. Among those products that are included in this tax credit are replacement windows and doors. This tax credit replaces the original 2009 tax credit provision signed by former President Bush.

As part of the Economic Stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 modifies and extends federal tax credits for eligible building components that improve energy efficiency. To be eligible, windows, doors and skylights must have both a U-Factor equal to or less than 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) equal to or less than 0.30.

Many Renewal by Andersen® windows and doors with High-Performance™ Low-E4®, High-Performance Low-E4 Sun, High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™, low-E or low-E sun glass will qualify for this new tax credit.
